Our Approach to Change 🌱

Narrative Change

Narrative change is a transformative process that dismantles existing attitudes towards rape and rape survivors. By challenging rape myths we switch public perception from doubt and dismissal to belief and support.

Policy Reform

Policy reform doesn’t happen in a vacuum — it’s driven by social change! When enough people recognize a problem and demand solutions, the law eventually follows. We support this process by reshaping public attitudes towards survivors.

What we're proud of:

Changing the way the press reports rape

We created the UK’s first media guidelines on how to responsibly report on rape. The guidelines expose how current reporting (such as using victim-blaming headlines and disproportionately focusing on stranger rape) reinforces rape myths. and outlines practical steps for more ethical reporting.

Approved by the UK’s press regulator IPSO, the guidelines are now listed among its official resources. In 2025 the guidelines were distributed to every UK national newspaper.

Changing the justice system

We launched a national petition calling for mandatory training on rape myths for all jurors on rape trials. The petition gained over 10,000 signatures and prompted an official government response. Our campaign for mandatory training continues.

Training UK universities
We’ve delivered training to UK universities on how to respond to sexual assault disclosures in a trauma-informed way. This helps create a safer and survivor-centred environment on campus. Learn more about our training here

Amplifying survivor voices
Our campaign #WhenISpokeUp invites survivors to share how people reacted when they shared that they were raped. It reveals the victim-blaming survivors' faces from friends, family and authorities — creating one of the largest digital collections of victim-blaming experiences. Read the submissions here.

Partnering with the CPS

We collaborated with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) on a video series guiding survivors through the criminal justice process, aiming to demystify a system that often feels inaccessible and intimidating.
